Madhu Babu Pension Yojana 2026: Pension Amount, Eligibility, Apply and Status
Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) is Odisha’s State-funded social-security pension for vulnerable residents, including older persons, widows and specified disability or destitution categories. The scheme was introduced in 2008 by combining earlier State old-age and disability pension arrangements and continues to be a major component of Odisha’s social-security system.
The pension amount is no longer the old ₹300 or ₹500 figure still shown on some outdated pages. Current Odisha implementation provides higher monthly support, including ₹3,500 per month for beneficiaries aged 80 years and above and for beneficiaries with at least 80% disability. Other eligible categories receive the amount applicable to their age/disability classification under the current State norms.

What Is Madhu Babu Pension Yojana?
MBPY is a monthly social-assistance pension rather than an insurance or contributory pension. The applicant does not make monthly contributions. Eligibility is based on the person’s category, residence, economic condition and non-receipt of another overlapping government pension under the applicable rules.
The scheme covers multiple categories, so the amount and supporting proof can differ. An old-age applicant is assessed differently from a disability pension applicant or a widow. The local social-security office verifies the category before sanction.
Who Can Be Covered?
- Odisha residents aged 60 years or above who satisfy the current economic and pension conditions.
- Widows under the scheme rules.
- Persons with benchmark disability who meet the applicable disability and residence conditions.
- Persons affected by leprosy/Hansen’s disease with qualifying deformity under the scheme rules.
- Specified AIDS/HIV-related beneficiary categories identified under the State framework.
- Other notified vulnerable categories such as certain unmarried/destitute/divorced/deserted women where the current State implementation provides coverage.
Current Pension Amounts
- Old-age beneficiaries aged 60 to 79: ₹1,000 per month under current district-level implementation.
- Beneficiaries aged 80 years and above: ₹3,500 per month from January 2025.

- Disability of 60% to 79%: ₹1,200 per month in current district implementation.
- Disability of 80% or more: ₹3,500 per month from January 2025.
- Other eligible categories generally follow the State amount applicable to their approved pension class.

Payment and DBT in 2026
Odisha has been moving willing MBPY beneficiaries toward DBT while continuing to manage pension disbursement through the social-security system. Beneficiaries should keep the bank account active and correctly linked. Where the local system still uses assisted distribution or another notified mode, the district/ULB instructions control the payment process.

- Disability percentage/category is not supported by an accepted certificate.
- Applicant is already receiving an overlapping government pension.
- Bank/Aadhaar details do not match.

FAQs
Q. Is every MBPY beneficiary aged 80 or above entitled to ₹3,500 per month?
The State enhanced the pension to ₹3,500 per month for beneficiaries aged 80 and above from January 2025. The beneficiary record must correctly reflect age and active eligibility.
Q. Does an 80% disability beneficiary need to be 80 years old to get ₹3,500?
No. The enhanced ₹3,500 category also applies to beneficiaries with not less than 80% disability under the State notification, subject to scheme eligibility.
Q. Can a person receive MBPY and another government pension at the same time?
The scheme generally bars receipt of another overlapping Union/State/government-aided pension. The applicant should disclose any existing pension during verification.
Q. What if an old online page still shows ₹300 or ₹500?
Those figures are outdated. Odisha has revised pension amounts, including the major January 2025 enhancement for the 80+ and 80%+ disability groups.
Q. Who should be contacted when an approved pension is not credited?
Start with the concerned BDO/urban local body or District Social Security Office and verify the beneficiary record, payment mode and bank/DBT details.
