Mukhyamantri Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana Rajasthan 2026: Free Livestock Insurance, Eligibility, Apply and Claim Status

0

For a dairy farmer or livestock-rearing family in Rajasthan, the loss of an animal can disrupt much more than the day’s earnings. A milch cow or buffalo may support regular milk sales, while sheep, goats and camels can represent years of investment and a household’s financial security. Mukhyamantri Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana was introduced to reduce that risk by arranging insurance protection for eligible livestock owners rather than leaving them to meet the entire loss themselves.

The scheme works through animal identification, field verification and a formal insurance policy. Merely owning an eligible animal or submitting a form does not establish cover: the animal must be selected, assessed, tagged and insured. This distinction matters especially when a farmer needs to check a policy or report the death of an insured animal.

What Is Mukhyamantri Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana?

Mangla Pashu Bima is Rajasthan’s state-supported insurance programme for specified categories of livestock. It is intended to compensate eligible animal owners if an insured animal dies from a covered cause during the policy period. The Animal Husbandry Department is the nodal department, while the State Insurance and Provident Fund system administers the insurance arrangement.

The programme began under the 2024–25 budget. Rajasthan’s 2025–26 official portal describes an expanded target covering 42 lakh animals across the two financial-year cohorts, including 21 lakh associated with 2024–25. That figure is a programme target, not a promise that every applicant will receive a policy.

What Insurance Benefits Are Available?

An eligible selected livestock owner pays no insurance premium for the one-year policy. The cover applies to the animals included in the issued policy, not automatically to every animal owned by the household. The permitted combinations depend on the livestock category and applicable district target.

  • Up to two milch animals may be insured: two cows, two buffaloes, or one cow and one buffalo.
  • The published 2025–26 design also provides for coverage of up to ten goats, ten sheep or ten camels, subject to the category’s conditions.
  • A milch cow or buffalo and an eligible camel can be valued at no more than ₹40,000 per animal; a female sheep or goat at no more than ₹4,000 per animal.
  • For valuation, ten sheep or goats count as one cattle unit, while one milch cow, buffalo or camel counts as one unit. Fewer than ten eligible sheep/goats may also be assessed.
  • The final insured value depends on the animal’s age, breed, milk yield, health and inspection; ₹40,000 is a ceiling, not an automatic payment.

Who Is Eligible?

  • The applicant must be a livestock owner in Rajasthan with a valid Jan Aadhaar record.
  • The animal must be in a covered category and meet the stated age limits: milch cows 3–12 years; buffaloes 4–12; female sheep and goats 1–6; and camels 2–15 years.
  • The animal must be available for verification and tagging and must not already be covered under another livestock insurance scheme.
  • Under the published 2025–26 selection arrangement, Gopal Credit Card holders, livestock-rearing Lakhpati Didis and eligible applicants carried forward from the 2024–25 waitlist receive priority.
  • The 2025–26 guidelines reserve district insurance targets of 16% for Scheduled Caste and 12% for Scheduled Tribe livestock owners, subject to the rules on unfilled allocations.

Who May Not Qualify?

  • Livestock outside the permitted species, sex or age ranges, including non-milch cattle presented as eligible milch animals.
  • Animals already insured through another government livestock insurance programme.
  • Cases without a valid Jan Aadhaar match, mandatory tag, satisfactory verification or the required policy record.
  • Applications exceeding the animal limits, or those not selected within district targets and priority arrangements.
  • Claims arising after an insured animal is sold or gifted, because the published rules treat that event as terminating the policy.

Documents and Details Needed

  • Jan Aadhaar family/member details, name, date of birth and registered mobile number.
  • Full residential address, district, block or city, village/ward and PIN code.
  • Bank account, IFSC and nominee details, as requested by the official registration form.
  • Clear photograph of the applicant with the livestock, in the size permitted by the portal.
  • Livestock category, number of animals and relevant Gopal Credit Card or Lakhpati Didi details.
  • Animal tag and veterinary inspection/policy particulars once the animal has been selected and insured.

How to Apply for Mangla Pashu Bima

  1. Visit Rajasthan’s official MMPBY site and select the registration facility for the relevant financial year. The portal inspected in October 2026 displays the 2025–26 route; check for a newly notified 2026–27 window instead of assuming that year is open.
  2. Provide consent for authorised Jan Aadhaar verification and enter member, identity and contact details.
  3. Complete address, bank, nominee and livestock particulars, including the category and number of animals.
  4. Upload the required photograph and submit the registration, preserving any acknowledgement or reference number.
  5. If selected, follow the message or field-survey schedule provided by the designated insurance/Animal Husbandry staff.
  6. Present the animal for age, condition and valuation checks and ensure its tag is correctly recorded. Keep the digital insurance policy link sent after completion.

How to Check Policy and Application Status

  • Open the official MMPBY portal and choose “Policy Status” for the correct financial year (the site lists both 2025–26 and 2024–25).
  • Enter the identity or policy details requested by that service and check whether the animal has an issued cover rather than relying only on registration.
  • Keep the mobile number active for field-survey notices and the policy-link SMS.
  • If the policy is missing, the tag is wrong or a survey has not happened, approach the local Animal Husbandry office or official scheme contact with the acknowledgement.

How to Claim Insurance After an Animal Dies

Tell the insurance department promptly when an insured animal dies. The 2025–26 rules call for an insurance representative to conduct a survey and a veterinarian to carry out a post-mortem examination, with the required information recorded in the scheme software. Preserve the animal’s tag and policy information and do not dispose of the carcass before the instructed inspection where this can reasonably be avoided.

The state guidelines provide for settlement of a valid death claim within 21 working days by the insurance department after the prescribed process. That is different from a guarantee of payment on the day the death is reported. The cover includes specified accidents and disasters and also deaths due to illness, but the waiting-period condition is important.

The 21-Day Waiting Period and Other Claim Conditions

For ordinary covered deaths, the published policy design applies a 21-day grace or waiting period following issue of the policy. The guidelines make exceptions for listed accidental events, including fire, road accidents, lightning, natural disasters, poisonous grass and snake/insect bites. Therefore, the cause and timing of death should be reported accurately; not all deaths in the first 21 days are handled alike.

If an ear tag goes missing while the animal is alive, notify the insurance department immediately so that re-tagging and the policy record can be corrected. Selling or gifting the insured animal ends the cover under the published scheme terms.

2026 Scheme Updates

Rajasthan’s official site continues to show the detailed rules and a registration/status arrangement labelled 2025–26. These rules describe a first-come-first-served process with priority categories. Older 2024–25 material refers to lottery-based selection, so the two years should not be mixed.

As of 24 October 2026, the official pages checked did not establish a separate, currently open 2026–27 application window. Applicants should rely on the financial-year selection actually shown on the government portal rather than a date circulated on a private website.

Practical Points Before Applying

  • Check each animal’s age and category before entering its details; an insured value cannot exceed the notified ceiling.
  • Keep proof of registration separate from the issued policy document. Only the latter establishes the insured animal and policy period.
  • Report a death immediately and cooperate with the veterinary post-mortem and insurer’s field survey.
  • Never pay a middleman who promises selection or a fixed ₹40,000 claim.

FAQs

Q. Does every Rajasthan livestock owner get free insurance automatically?

No. Jan Aadhaar holders may be eligible to register, but cover begins only after selection, animal verification, tagging and issue of a policy.

Q. Can a farmer insure one cow and one buffalo?

Yes. The published 2025–26 combinations permit one eligible milch cow and one eligible milch buffalo, or two animals of either milch category.

Q. Is ₹40,000 paid whenever an insured cow dies?

No. ₹40,000 is the upper limit for eligible large livestock. The approved insured value and validity of the death claim determine the payable amount.

Q. What happens when an animal dies within 21 days of policy issue?

The cause matters. Specified accidents and natural events are excepted from the ordinary 21-day waiting-period condition. Other deaths are assessed under the policy wording.

Q. How quickly is a valid livestock death claim paid?

The official 2025–26 guidelines specify payment within 21 working days after the required claim procedure. Report the death promptly and keep survey/post-mortem records.
