LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana 2026: Eligibility, ₹7,000 Stipend, Apply Online, Training and Commission
LIC’s Bima Sakhi programme is a three-year stipendiary scheme exclusively for women who are recruited as Mahila Career Agents. It is not a salaried government job and it is not a welfare cash transfer paid simply for registering. A selected woman becomes an LIC insurance agent and can receive a monthly stipend for up to three consecutive years only if she remains an agent and meets the prescribed business and policy-persistency conditions.
For 2026, LIC’s official instructions state that applicants must be women aged 18 to 70, have passed Class 10 or higher, be permanent residents of India and satisfy the rules for appointment as an LIC agent. The stipend is ₹7,000 per month in the first stipendiary year, ₹6,000 in the second and ₹5,000 in the third, with performance conditions. Commission on policies sold is separate from the stipend.

What Is LIC Bima Sakhi?
Bima Sakhi is LIC’s women-focused career-agent route. The selected candidate works as an insurance agent, builds a policy portfolio and receives the additional stipend only while satisfying the programme norms. After the three-year stipendiary period, she can continue as a normal LIC agent and earn commission and other agent benefits under the applicable rules.
LIC also states that graduate Bima Sakhis who complete five agency years may participate in the recruitment process for Apprentice Development Officer if they independently satisfy the eligibility conditions. This is an opportunity to apply, not an automatic promotion.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be a woman.
- Minimum completed age: 18 years on the application date.
- Maximum entry age: 70 years (last birthday basis as stated by LIC).
- Educational qualification: Class 10 pass or higher.
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of India.
- She must be eligible for appointment as an insurance agent under the applicable LIC/IRDAI regulations.
- She should be able to devote adequate time and attention to agency work.
- Central Government, State Government or PSU employees are not eligible to be recruited as Bima Sakhis.
Who Cannot Apply?
- An existing LIC agent cannot apply for recruitment as Bima Sakhi.
- A retired LIC employee or an ex-agent seeking reappointment is not granted agency under the Bima Sakhi scheme.
- Specified relatives of an existing agent or eligible ex-agent, LIC employee/ex-employee, medical examiner/ex-medical examiner are not eligible under the official instructions.
- The listed relatives include spouse, children including adopted/stepchildren, parents, brothers, sisters and immediate in-laws.
- Incomplete or unsigned applications can be rejected.
Bima Sakhi Stipend Structure
- First stipendiary year: ₹7,000 per month, subject to monthly business norms.
- Second stipendiary year: ₹6,000 per month, subject to the required policy in-force/persistency condition from the first year.
- Third stipendiary year: ₹5,000 per month, subject to the required policy in-force/persistency condition from the second year.
- The second- and third-year condition currently requires at least 65% of the relevant earlier-year policies to be in force at the end of the corresponding month.
- Stipend is payable only for the first three consecutive stipendiary years and ceases if the Bima Sakhi agency is terminated.
First-Year Monthly Performance Norms
LIC’s current instructions set minimum lives and First Year Commission (FYC, excluding bonus commission) for the first stipendiary year. A Bima Sakhi must also complete at least one policy in the relevant month to be eligible for that month’s stipend.
- First 4 months: at least 1 life and ₹2,000 FYC in each month.
- Next 4 months: at least 2 lives and ₹4,000 FYC in each month.
- Last 4 months: at least 3 lives and ₹6,000 FYC in each month.
- Total first-year benchmark shown by LIC: 24 lives and ₹48,000 FYC.
- A shortfall can be made good later within the stipendiary year under LIC’s stated rule, but no stipend is payable for a month in which the Bima Sakhi remained inactive.
Documents to Keep Ready
LIC’s overview page says selected candidates must submit required documents but does not publish one exhaustive universal checklist in the summary instructions. Candidates should therefore rely on the live application/branch checklist. At minimum, keep records proving the mandatory eligibility facts ready:
- Proof of age/date of birth.
- Class 10 or higher educational qualification certificate.
- Identity and permanent-residence/address proof accepted by LIC.
- Recent photograph and contact details as required by the application.
- PAN/Aadhaar or other KYC details requested during the agency appointment process.
- Any declaration or family/relationship information required to test the disqualification rules.
How to Apply for LIC Bima Sakhi
- Open LIC’s official Bima Sakhi/Mahila Career Agent page and use the current application link.
- Enter the applicant’s personal, age, education, address and contact details accurately.
- Submit the application and the documents requested by LIC.
- Complete the pre-recruitment test prescribed under the applicable IRDAI rules.
- Attend the branch-office interview conducted by the Branch In-charge or authorised officer.
- If selected and otherwise eligible, complete the agency appointment formalities and receive the agency code.
- Begin agency work and meet the month-wise business norms to become eligible for the stipend.
Pre-Recruitment Test and Appointment
The applicant has to pass the pre-recruitment examination prescribed under the applicable IRDAI regulations. Passing the test is part of the route to agency appointment; it does not by itself create a salaried post.
After the test, LIC’s process includes document submission, a branch interview to assess suitability and agency-code allotment under the normal rules for LIC insurance agents.
Commission Is Separate From the Stipend
Bima Sakhis can earn commission on policies sold in addition to any stipend for which they qualify. This means monthly income is not a fixed ₹7,000/₹6,000/₹5,000 salary. The stipend is conditional and commission varies with actual business and applicable agent commission rules.
If agency is terminated because minimum business criteria are not met and the person is later reinstated, LIC states that she continues as a normal agent rather than returning to Bima Sakhi stipend status.
Common Reasons an Applicant or Stipend Can Fail
- Age or education requirement not met.
- Applicant is a government/PSU employee or falls under another stated disqualification.
- Applicant is an existing agent or a specified ineligible relative.
- Pre-recruitment test or branch selection process is not completed.
- Application/documents are incomplete or inconsistent.
- Monthly life/FYC requirement is not met and the shortfall is not made good under the permitted rule.
- Policy persistency falls below the stated 65% condition for second/third-year stipend.
- Bima Sakhi remains inactive or the agency is terminated.
